Okay, confession time…who’s gone out and bought that top-of-the-line TV and has yet to calibrate it? Hands…wow, that’s a lot. There are a lot of settings on TVs that will help you to achieve the best possible picture, but most of the time, that’s the problem. The vast menu purgatory that we can become lost in when trying to tune in the settings is definitely intimidating. Good thing there’s an EASY and CHEAP way to achieve optimal results, and odds are you have most of what you need on-hand at this very moment. The most painless way to calibrate your TV (old, new, plasma, LCD…), is to use the THX Optimizer with a special pair of calibration glasses. Just a few simple steps and you’ll do at home for $2 what costs around $350 to have professionally done. I’d argue that the final results between the two would be negligible to the eye, but very apparent to you wallet. Some advice though, try calibrating in your ideal viewing conditions (not midday, not midnight…maybe dusk with the curtains drawn). With these simple tools at your disposal, there’s no excuse for not having the best viewing experience possible. Off-the-shelf TVs are notoriously calibrated to look best on display at the store, not in your home. Take the small extra step and get the results that you already paid for! |
